PURPOSE:To improve mechanical characteristics, temperature characteristics, and water resistance by interposing water absorptive film powders in the gap between a thermoplastic resin tube and an optical fiber element wire. CONSTITUTION:Thermoplastic resin 3 is supplied through between the die 1 and point 2 of the cross head of an extruder and an optical fiber element wire 4 consisting of a single or plural wires which are supplied along the center of a point 3 are extruded in a tube shape while a gap 7 is left, thereby forming a coating layer 3a. The thermoplastic resin 3 is formed in the tube shape, so air of specific atm. is fed into the thermoplastic resin tube 3 from an air injection port 6 at the rear end of the cross head. Water absorptive fine powders 5 is fed together with said air and changed in the gap 7 between the thermoplastic resin tube 3a and optical fiber element wires 4 by a desired amount. Consequently, an optical fiber cable which is small in increase in transmission loss and has long service life and high reliability is manufactured.
