The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for separating magnetic materials from refuse or the like, for which a rotating drum is used, on the inside wall of which magnetic elements are arranged which extend over a substantial part of the axial drum length, attract the magnetic components out of the refuse and convey them into a discharging trough for the magnetic material which projects into the drum in a stationary fashion.
