A cockpit roof for the pilot's cockpit of an aircraft which is held such that it can pivot for opening about an shaft which is located in its rear end region and runs parallel to the aircraft lateral axis, such that it can be ejected in emergency situations. The retention of the cabin roof on its pivoting shaft is in this case constructed in such a manner that the roof is fixed in its radial position with respect to the pivoting shaft over a predetermined opening angle range, and such that it is automatically released from the pivoting shaft when this angle range is exceeded. <IMAGE>
