PURPOSE:To transmit a data in high speed depending on the kind of data by providing a store and forward exchange means transferring the data from one to the other terminal and a terminal direct coupling means coupling directly both the terminal equipment. CONSTITUTION:An input signal from connectors C1-C6 is inputted to UART U1-U6 via lines m1-m6 and when any of matrix gate switches 0-1-6-5 is turned on, the input and output lines to be connected are coupled directly. When a CPU9 discriminates the direct coupling processing, it outputs an H level signal to a prescribed output terminal of an output port 19. When a termi nal equipment 4 gives a direct coupling request to a terminal equipment 3, the CPU9 outputs an H level signal to a terminal 4-3 of a port P3 to turn on the gate switch having an input terminal 4-3. The input line m4 is connected to an output line l3 to the connector C3, which connects directly the line m4 and the line l4.
