PURPOSE:The titled polymer useful as a material for the production of a chlorosulfonated ethylene polymer excellent in mechanical strengths such as aging resistance and tensile strength, obtained by (co)polymerizing C2H4, etc., in the presence of a catalyst containing Ti, Mg and Al. CONSTITUTION:A monomer (mixture) comprising 100-90wt% ethylene and 0-10wt% 3-18C alpha-olefin copolymerizable therewith is polymerized at 100-200 deg.C and a pressure of 5-90kg/cm<2>G in an inert hydrocarbon (e.g., hexane) in the presence of a mixed catalyst comprising a Ti compound such as a bi- to tetra-valent Ti halide, an organomagnesium compound of the formula [wherein R is a (cyclo)alkyl, an (alkyl)aryl or the like, X is a halogen, and 1<=n<=2] and an Al halide (e.g., trichloroaluminum) to obtain the titled polymer of a MI of 0.5-20g/10min, a degree of branching <=6/1,000 main-chain carbons and a gamma/MI<=180 (wherein gamma is a shear rate under a high shear stress).
