The device for braking the unwinding of an elongated element such as a hose or a cable comprises at least a member (13) such as a cable susceptible of being helically wound about the element to be braked (2) and having its extremities each mounted on a support frame (4, 11), and drive means (10) for respectively removing away the two frames in a direction parallel to the unwinding.
