938,750. Controlling guided missiles. L. BOLKOW. April 4, 1961 [April 5, 1960], No. 11980/61. Class 4. A spoiling device for aerodynamically controlling a guided missile comprises a faired plastic casing formed in two halves 23, 24 connected by screws 21, 22 which secure also a pair of laterally spaced electro-magnets 18, 20 within a U-section core plate 2. A spoiler plate 1 is mounted for lateral movement through slots 26, 27 in the casing and its position may be trimmed or adjusted by screws 48, 49 which bear on lugs 46, 47 turned out from the plate. The plate 1 is slotted to accommodate T-headed straps 3, 4, 5 and 6 which at their ends remote from the T-heads 11 are slotted at 10 to engage over lugs 9 formed on the core plate 2. An armature plate 30 is pivotally located in plate 2 by lugs 32, 33 and is urged into contact therewith by a spring 37 surrounding a tongue 36 which engages an aperture in plate 1. Plates 1 and 2 are held parallel and straps 3-6 are tensioned by springs 40, 41 secured to lugs 42, 43 on the casing and to the plate 1. Energization of the electromagnets will cause armature 30 to rock about lugs 32, 33 thereby projecting spoiler plate 1 from one or the other side of the casing. |
