PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance useful as a raw material of low-toxic pyrethroidal pesticide, in high conversion, without producing by-products, by reacting a halobenzene with m-hydroxybenzyl alcohol in the presence of a copper compound catalyst under a specific temperature condition using a specific amount of an alkali. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by reacting a halobenzene with m-hydroxybenzyl alcohol in the presence of a copper compound catalyst using 1.0-2.0 g-equivalent, preferably 1.0-1.4 g-equivalent of an alkali metal hydroxide, carbonate and/or bicarbonate based on 1mol of m- hydroxybenzyl alcohol, at 110-150 deg.C, preferably 120-140 deg.C. The amount of the halobenzene is preferably 1.5-5mol per 1mol of m-hydroxybenzyl alcohol. The copper compound catalyst is preferably 8-oxyquinoline copper complex, etc. |
