PURPOSE:To prevent the floating of one side of a rolling stock and to improve the width accuracy of the stock by detecting the shape of a side-end face of stock and slanting a vertical roll by a proper angle to the advancing or reversing direction of stock based on the detected results. CONSTITUTION:A detector A for detecting the shape of side-end face of a rolling stock 1 and a signal processing device B, are arranged on the upstream of an edging mill D. Based on the detected shape of the side-end face, a vertical roll 2a is slanted, by an angle within a range of 5-15 deg., to the advancing direction of stock 1. When judged, based on the detected results in the degree of an assortment of said shape, that the slanting of only one-side roll 2a is insufficient, the vertical roll 2 of the other side is also slanted oppositely to the advancing direction of stock 1 by an angle of the same degree as that of the roll 2a. By this method, a component of the vector of rotating motion of the rolls 2a, 2 prevents the floating of the one side of stock 1. Accordingly, the width accuracy of stock 1 is improved. |
