PURPOSE:To detect not only existence of a flame but also the burning state and to facilitate the position adjustment by detecting brightness of the flame via a light guide and at the same time, observing the flame as an image via an image guide and an image pickup element. CONSTITUTION:The flame is formed on the face of the image guide 106 by an objective 108 and transmitted to the opposite side as it is and imaged on the image pickup element 111 via an objective 109 and converted into an electrical signal and projected on a monitor TV 112. On the other hand, the light guide 107 catches the brightness within a visual field which is transmitted to the opposite side and made incident on a photoelectric transducer 110 and an electrical signal is outputted as the average value of the brightness via a cable 113. This electrical signal becomes a discriminating signal at the time of desiring to know the existence of the flame by the brightness or the brightness variation of the flame. Thus, since the state of the flame can be observed as the image, the most suitable visual field of the main body 104 of the detector is decided while observing and not only the existence of the flame is known but also the state can be recognized accurately.
