A sensor (11) reacts to the phenomenon caused on the outer side of the exhaust valve when a leak occurs during combustion in the engine's cylinder. A warning system (17) is connected to the sensor (11) for producing an alarm on the occurrence of a valve leak. The sensor (11) can monitor light, heat or pressure.
