PURPOSE:To avoid waste of a recording area by providing a rotating speed switch means switching the rotating speed of a disc in response to a disc diameter. CONSTITUTION:In order to optimize the recording density while discs with different diameters are used, the rotating speed of the disc is changed. The rotating speed is inversely proportional to the diameter of the innermost circumference. A disc diameter detection part 1 detects the disc diameter and sends a signal the type of disc diameter to a controller 2. The said controller 2 commands the rotating speed of the disc corresponding to the kind to a disc rotation motor control circuit 3. Thus, the rotating speed of a disc turning motor 4 is controlled in this way.
