PURPOSE:To efficiently recover arsenic and to facilitate the recovery and post- treatment of an adsorbent, by preparing an arsenic adsorbent by using ocean phytoplankton Donariella obtained by pure culture. CONSTITUTION:The mass pure culture of Donariella, a plankton separated and isolated in the ocean is performed in a culture solution rich inorg. nutrients, for example, at 23+ or -3 deg.C under an aeration-stirring condition with continuous irradiation of light, using a fluorescent lamp of 200 lux or more. When the Donariella reaches a max. density (10<6> cells/ml or more), the culture solution and plankton are centrifugally separated to harvest plankton in a conc. state. The obtained plankton or plankton-containing substance is used as an arsenic adsorbent as it is. When this arsenic adsorbent is added to an arsenic-containing aqueous solution, arsenic in the aqueous solution in adsorbed by the cell wall of the Donariella, the adsorbent.
