The present invention relates to a device for measuring the volume of a liquid present in a tank. The device comprises a level detection equipment 10 displaced in the tank along a non-horizontal path from a known end stop position, at least as far as the liquid/gas interface, as well as a position-coding instrument. According to the invention, the level-detection equipment comprises a switch element 120 which can move between a rest position occupied when this element is above the liquid and a working position occupied when this switch element comes in contact with the liquid, the switch element 120 being adapted in order to modify the state of the level-detection equipment when its position changes. <IMAGE>
