PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer having high solvent-resistance and heat- resistance, excellent moldability and mechanical properties, and high polymerization degree, by using a nucleus-substituted terephthaloyl dichloride as an acid component and polymerizing the component with a bisphenol by interfacial polymerization. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer can be produced by contacting (A) an organic solvent solution of a nucleus-substituted terephthaloyl dichloride of formula I (R<1>-R<4> are H, 1-8C hydrocarbon group, etc., provided that at least one of them is not H) (preferably monochloroterephthaloyl dichloride) with (B) an alkaline aqueous solution of a bisphenol of formula II (R<5>-R<8> are H, halogen, 1-8C alkyl, etc.; X is -SO2-, -SO-, etc.) [preferably bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) sulfone, etc.], to effect the interfacial polymerization of the component A and the component B. The organic solvent is preferably methylene chloride, etc., and the alkali is preferably NaOH.
