[Also in Division F2] In a pressure regulator, which in use is designed to. pressurize the suits of aircraft personnel, control of fluid flow between inlet 13 and outlet 14 is achieved by a double-acting closure member 15 which has associated therewith two diaphragms 21 and 22, a chamber 24 formed on the underside of the lower diaphragm 21 being in communication with the outlet 14 via restricted passage 54, 58, whilst the topmost surface of the upper diaphragm is subjected both to the bias of a spring 23 and, in dependance upon the altitude, to either atmospheric pressure or to the pressure prevailing at the outlet 14. At altitudes up to 35,000 feet, the pressure in chamber 25 is equal to the ambient pressure by virtue of the communication afforded by passage 59, 60, 65. At higher altitudes, the ambient pressure allows an evacuated bellows 27 to contract and hence via stem 94 to unseat ball valve member 87, such unseating places chamber 25 in communication with the pressure at the outlet 14 via the passage 99, 97, 96, 93, 75, 76, 77, 78 and 82. With the ball valve member 87 unseated, the inflow to chamber 25 is greater than the flow which can take place through port 59 and hence a net pressure exists in chamber 25. Should the regulator be subjected to acceleration loads in the Y 1 direction, the changed forces acting on the diaphragm are compensated by virtue of the fact that passage 60 becomes restricted by the approach of a ball member 62 towards its seat 63. A similar compensator 28 may be provided for operation when the regulator is subjected to forces in the Y 2 direction. Should the outlet be closed, any leakage past valve member 15 is vented by unseating of a check ball valve member 109 and the separation of the lower diaphragm 21 and the valve stem 20, such separation opening a capillary passage 43, 100 and so placing the space 24 in communication with space 101 between the diaphragms, space 101 being vented via port 102.
