A relatively high throughput is achieved, for the discharge of material from pressure vessels, by a parallel arrangement of a plurality of material sluices, preferably star-feeder sluices. The surface sealing pressure on the individual cover plates can be applied either by corresponding pre-stress in the case of the force balance or by separate elastic elements in the transfer element. Compensation of the gas pressure forces is achieved via a force balance. As a result, those devices which are otherwise necessary, in the case of a star-feeder sluice, for pressing the cover plates together are dispensed with. Due to the reduced wear, the apparatus according to the invention is largely free of the necessity for maintenance. <IMAGE>
