The device, forming the subject of the invention, comprises a lifting system 1 capable of seizing from its base a stack 5 of the said articles and of moving it uniformly along the vertical, a gripping system 7 for picking up the article 6 which is at the top of the said stack and for transferring it to the said other station, means for synchronously controlling the upward movement of the said lifting system 1 and the movement of the said gripping system 7 so that the top of the stack constantly remains substantially at the same level or is periodically brought back to the same level, at least one auxiliary support 14 capable of taking hold of the remainder of the said stack and keeping it in the fixed position when the said lifting system 1 arrives at a predetermined height, and means for interrupting the upward vertical movement of the lifting system 1, when it reaches the said predetermined height, and for bringing it back to its starting position in order to take hold of a new stack, without interrupting the picking-up of the articles resting on the said auxiliary support 14. <IMAGE>
