[Also in Division B6] In a method of making a bowl-shaped paper or cardboard article including areas of different curvature, a sheet of double-faced corrugated paper or cardboard consisting of an intermediate sheet of corrugated paper or cardboard having adhering to the peaks of its corrugations on each face a respective sheet of paper which is capable of substantial extension in mutually perpendicular planar directions, is shaped to form the article by subjecting it to a drawing operation in which the double-faced paper or cardboard sheet is crushed to an extent dependent on its final curvature, those parts which are not curved or are curved to a lesser extent being crushed to a lesser extent. The intermediate sheet may be normal or extensible paper. In examples the outer sheets are of micro-creped extensible kraft paper and the intermediate sheet of ordinary kraft paper, or the outer sheets are of creped kraft paper of different weights and the intermediate sheet is micro-creped kraft paper. As described a tray is formed by drawing the double-faced sheet between a die 10 and a two-part stamp 11, 11a. The board is first laid on the die 10. The stamp part 11 is applied to compress the flat parts of the tray slightly and hold the board in position. The stamp part 11a is applied to form the more highly deformed parts of the tray. The distance between the die 10 and stamp 11, 11a varies depending on the amount of deformation to be produced in a particular zone, the die and stamp being closest together in the zones of highest deformation. |
