1328947 Phenylhydrazones BAYER AG 22 March 1972 [23 March 1971] 13413/72 Heading C2C Phenyl hydrazones of the general formula in which X and Y, which may be identical or different, are each H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, Hal, NO 2 or haloalkyl, n is 1, 2, or 3, R1 and R2 are alkyl with up to 4 carbon atoms and R3 is H or alkyl with up to 4 carbon atoms or R2 and R3, together with the nitrogen to which they are shown attached, forma heterocycline ring which optionally contains at least one further heteroatom are claimed per se. These compounds are prepared by reacting an α-chloro-α-acyl carbonyl phenyl hydrazone of general formula in which X, Y, n and R1 have the meanings above with an amine of general formula in which R2 and R3 have the meanings as above in the presence of an acid-binding agent. The reaction may be effected in the presence of a substantially inert diluent e.g. polar inert solvent at a temperature of from 10‹ to 70‹ C. The reactants may be used in substantially equimolar amounts or with an excess of the amine, which acts as the acid-binding agent. The acid-binding agent may be an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal carbonate.
