In liquid containers which are subjected to wide temperature fluctuations, for example LNG containers, and in which the functions of the load-bearing structure and of the sealing (the liner) are allocated to different materials, it is possible, if the materials have different thermal conductivity values and thermal expansion values and/or are subjected to different temperature changes, for very large different deformations of the two materials and, if these are impeded, correspondingly large enforced stresses to occur, so that there is a risk of damage to or destruction of the container. It is proposed to design a liner (7), consisting of thin non-self-supporting material and divided into vertical strips (26), with a flexurally soft, shallow or trapezoidal deformation (27), which penetrates the strips perpendicularly and allows expansions tangential to the inner surface of the container and which fits into the correspondingly formed groove (32) in the container wall (2) and on the back of which, facing the container wall, hammerhead-shaped anchors (28) are fixed, by means of which the liner strip (26) is movably anchored in the installation element (6), and with vertically overlapping edges (29 and 30), welded to one another by tight seams, of adjacent liner strips (26) in the wall areas between the installation elements (6). <IMAGE>
