Substd. phenoxypropionic acid derivs. of formula (I) are new (where X1 is H or halogen; X2 is CF3 or halogen; Z is N or CX; X is H or halogen; R is -N(R1)C(=Y)NR2R3, -N(R4)CHO or gp. (II); Y is O or S; R1 is H or 1-6C alkyl and R2 is H, 1-6C alkyl, 3-8C alkenyl or opt. substd. aryl, or R1 and R2 together form opt. substd. 2-4C alkylene. R3 is H, 1-6C alkyl or opt. substd. aryl; A is opt. substd. 2-4C alkylene; R4 is H or 1-6C alkyl). - (I) can be prepd. by several methods, including by reacting a phenoxy propionic acid chloride of formula (III) with H-R in the presence of a diluent and opt. an acid binding agent.
