<p>PURPOSE:To attain decision of the recording mode with simple constitution by utilizing pilot signals different from each other reproduced from a main track and its adjacent track having a prescribed relation while a magnetic tape is run in the faster recording mode. CONSTITUTION:Pilot signals f1-f4 are outputted at each field from a pilot signal generator 16 at recording. In discriminating the recording mode, the magnetic tape is run in the SP mode (faster mode). The pilot signal generator 16 outputs alternately pilot signals f1, f3 at each two fields and generates a sampling pulse for tracking once at four fields each at a prescribed position of a field just before the pilot signal f1 changes into the f3 and at a prescribed position of a field just after the sampling pulse for mode discrimination pulse is switched. Thus, an output of a differential amplifier 10 is identified by a comparator 14 to discriminate the recording mode.</p> |
