Checker for coins of different values, with a first test detector 6 for the alloy, charged successively by voltages of various frequencies delivered by a generator BF 15, a stop on the slide for the coins, a second test detector 8 for the diameter of the coins, mounted downstream from the stop, and a transducer device 22. The transducer device 22 controls the generator BF 15 and inverters 16, 17, 18 for transmission of a checking voltage UQC to a voltage detector 21 and stores its output voltage Um in a memory 26. When put into service, a calibration of the test detectors 6, 8 is carried out before checking a coin, so as to eliminate the influence of temperature variations, external perturbations and of ageing. After calibration and all the checks on a coin, the corresponding values are compared in the memory 26 then an appropriate signal is delivered. <IMAGE>
