The method involves cutting segments from a continuously moving film and transporting the segments and articles to an applicator station. At the station, each segment is applied to an article and wrapped about it, with each segment trailing and overlapping the leading end. - In the method, a side seam is formed which is held together by an adhesive. The articles are then transported through a heating station where hot air is blown onto projecting edges of a segment to cause them to shrink onto the article.
