PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power converter which can be protected without installing an output side transformer, and prevent a load side accident from spreading. SOLUTION: A current flowing in the output side of a power converter 30 is detected with a current detector 35. This detected current Ic is compared with a 120% refrence current value and a 200% reference current value by using comparators 11a and 11b, respectively. When the detected current Ic exceeds the 120% reference current value and then exceeds the 200% reference current value after a specified time T1 has passed, the power converter is halted. When the detected current Ic exceeds the 120% reference current value and then exceeds the 200% current reference value within the specified time T1, a thyristor short-circuit device 5 is operated. |
