In a method for producing a suede-like surface a pile fabric (26) consisting of fine filaments in the range 0.0001-0.8 denier is passed over a roll (16), which rotates at 1-20 m/min. and has a randomly uneven surface. The fabric is pressed firmly onto roll (16) by rollers (24,22) and while in contact with roll (16) is sprayed with a high-pressure fluid which is supplied from a header source (12) via nozzles (14). The fluid passes through a tube (2) which rotates at 0.1-30 m/min. and which is constituted by a random-mesh element, suitably a metallic, 5-300 mesh element with an opening ratio of 10-80%. The method is used for the production of a material useful as a substitute for natural suede. |
