A switched vertical deflection arrangement includes a source of voltage alternating at the horizontal deflection rate between mutually opposite polarities. A first controllable switch couples the source with a vertical deflection winding during the horizontal retracing interval to allow the flow of current of a first polarity through the winding. A second controllable switch couples the source with the winding during the horizontal tracing interval deflection winding in a second polarity which is opposite to that of the first.
