PURPOSE:To prepare a novel substance by searching a bacterial strain having bacteriostatic activity to the insect-parasitic microorganisms. CONSTITUTION:The starting bacterial strain is e.g. Bacillus cereus SW, and the medium is e.g. composed of 3% polypeptone, 0.5% yeast extract, 0.5% NaCl and 96% deionized water (pH=7.0). The cultivation is carried out preferably at 25- 30 deg.C for 2-3 days under aerobic condition. The obtained culture liquid is centrifuged to separate the bacterial cell. The objective GIF-1 can be separated from the filtrate in the form of white prismatic fine crystals. It has following physical and chemical properties. Molecular weight, 1,057; thermal stability, light brown discoloration and a little shrinkage take place at 210-215 deg.C, turns to dark brown at 234-239 deg.C, and carbonizes at 240-245 deg.C; solubility, soluble in water, methanol, ethanol and t-butanol, and insoluble in n-butanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, ether, chloroform, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, and petroleum ether. |
