Appts. for heat sealing the top of thermoplastic bags has a motor for driving pairs of belts (13) for drawing the tops of bags between heating tools (10), compression rolls (12), cooling blocks (11), etc. Interchangeable modules (5) with sets of belts etc. can be mounted on the apparatus to engage the drive shaft, power links etc. of the main appts. - The drive motor is linked via a gear box and variable speed unit to a shaft (8) for engaging module drive belts.
