PURPOSE:To illuminate an object in good illumination conditions to process images efficiently by calculating a density width in an image on a basis of outputs of two detecting means, which detect respective picture element densities of the brightest part and the darkest part in the photographic image, to control the quantity of light. CONSTITUTION:Detecting means 3 and 4 detect respective picture element densities of the brightest part and the darkest part in the photographic image obtained by a television camera which photographs the object. An arithmetic means 5 calculates a density difference in accordance with picture element density signals from means 3 and 4, and an illuminating light quantity control means 6 control the quantity of illuminating light in accordance with the density difference signal from the means 5. A control part of the means 6 outputs a light quantity control signal on a basis of the increase/reduction of the quantity of light and the density width at the just preceding point of time, which are stored in an internal storage part of the means 6, and the density width at the present time. The object is illuminated with the controlled quantity of light of an illuminating device 2 by this control signal, and thus, the object is illuminated in optimum illumination conditions. |
