PURPOSE:To produce a ferrite single crystal in high yield at a low cost, by mirror-polishing the contacting surface of a polycrystalline ferrite and a single crystal ferrite aligning the polishing direction of at least the single crystal ferrite to a definite direction, contacting the mirror-polished faces with each other, and heating the product. CONSTITUTION:The contacting faces of a polycrystalline ferrite 2 such as Mn-Zn ferrite and single crystal ferrite 1, 3 are polished to mirror faces of a surface roughness of preferably <=0.5mu and a flatness of <=0.5mu with diamond abrasive grains. In the above process, the polishing direction of at least the single crystal ferrite is aligned to a definite direction. When the polycrystalline ferrite and the single crystal ferrite 1-3 are rectangular parallelopiped, the direction is preferably the direction of the long side of the parallelopiped. The polished faces are contacted with each other interposing an organic acid or an inorganic acid therebetween, and the assembly is heated at about 1,330-1,350 deg.C. The single crystal ferrites 1, 3 are grown to the side of the polycrystalline ferrite 2 to obtain a large-sized ferrite single crystal 4. |
