[Also in Group XL (b)] The electric motors for high and low speed running of a circular machine are controlled by circuits which may be broken when influenced by electronic or photo-electric devices recording any irregularity in the machine operation or fabric to cause the machine to be stopped. Brake mechanism is also provided to assist in stopping the machine. The hand-control levers 7 of the machine are adapted to be placed in various positions, the action of which causes a chain 1 to rotate a segment 8 which influences rollers 32, 33 to cause contacts 34-35, 36-37, 38-39, 40-41 to make or break, thereby controlling the operation of the driving motors. A cam 18 integral with a ratchet wheel 22 is also movable to control a roller 28 influencing contacts 29-30 in the motors' circuits. A brake band 10 extends over a drum 12 on the driving shaft of the machine and is secured to the hub 9 of the cam 18 and ratchet wheel 22. Pawls 14 and 19 control the movement of the cam 18 and ratchet wheel 22, the pawl 19 being controlled by an electromagnet 26. The electromagnet is in the circuit of the electronic or photo-electric control devices which when actuated influence the pawl 19 to release the ratchet 22 and thereby cause the brake band to be operated at the same time as the segment 8 is moved to break the motor circuit and thereby stop the machine.
