PURPOSE:To realize IPL (initial program loading) from plural addresses and make starting up in a designated mode possible by storing different kinds of software in different positions on the same medium and allocating an information setting part, which has a one-bit capacity at least, for IPL area setting in a composite system where processings can be performed in different modes in only one information processing system. CONSTITUTION:Data to an IPL designating information part 11 is transferred directly or indirectly to a disc controller 2 together with a command for IPL. When receiving this command, the disc controller selects an IPL area block 51 or 52 (indicated by oblique lines) on a basis of this designating information and takes in system software stored in the selected area and transfers it to a main system 1. Not only an IPL device is designated but also the area in the IPL device is directly or indirectly designated, thereby starting up different kinds of system software stored in the same device. |
