A machine for the automatic preparation of hot beverages, such as coffee, tea or the like, consists of a fresh water storage (4) which can be refilled via a feed line (28), and a hot water reservoir (5) which is connected to said fresh water storage via a refilling line (21) and has a heating device (19) and a dispensing line (13) which leads out of the latter. The refilling line (21) is constructed as a syphon and ends with one end preferably directly above the bottom of the hot water reservoir (5), corresponding to the minimum filling height and, with its leg (23) bent in a U-shape in the direction of the hot water reservoir, preferably directly above the bottom of the fresh water container (4), arranged above the hot water reservoir, corresponding to the minimum filling height. <IMAGE>
