In order to increase both the dielectric strength and the switching capacity of an individual vacuum-switching chamber considerably, the method, which has already been identified as being advantageous for a single switching path, for producing magnetic fluxes, which are parallel to the arc, between magnetically highly permeable bodies on both sides of the switching path, is extended to a series circuit of two switching paths. For this purpose, a current-conductor bolt which is surrounded by magnetically highly-permeable bodies and supports contact bodies on both ends is fixed in the dielectric centre of the switching chamber. Contact bodies interact on the same axis and synchronously, in a contact-making manner or an arc-drawing manner, with the two stationary contact bodies. In addition, the current-conductor bolts on these movable mating- contact bodies are likewise surrounded by bodies consisting of magnetically highly permeable material. <IMAGE>
