PURPOSE:An oxalacetic acid derivative, as a starting material, is subjected to the reaction in an organic solvent in the presence of a base and a phase-transfer catalyst to easily achieve the high-selectivity production of the titled compound which is used as a starting substance for drug, agricultural chemical and substances for storing and exchanging photoenergy. CONSTITUTION:Readily available oxalacetic acid derivative of formula I (R1, R2 are alkyl; R3 is acyl, alkylsulfonyl, arylsulfonyl, alkyloxycarbonyl) such as diethyl O-benzenesulfonyloxyoxalacetate in an organic solvent such as acetonitrile or isopropyl ether in the presence of a base or phase-transfer catalyst such as polyethylene glycol to give an acetylene dicarboxylic acid derivative of formula IIsuch as diethyl acetylenedicarboxylate.
