PURPOSE:To make cylinder-partial-suspending operation conformable to a demand of a driver attainable, by judging of whether a detection value for throttle valve opening is smaller or not and, when it is smaller than the said value, suspending the operation of cylinders at the suspension side. CONSTITUTION:In case of both suction and exhaust valves 33 and 34 of #2 and #3 cylinders B and C in a four-cylinder engine, which are kept in a state of being closed by exciting each solenoid 51 of each valve block device 52 controlled by a control circuit 40 whereby operations of these cylinders B and C are designed so as to be suspendible, the control circuit 40 is constituted so as to control each solenoid 51 on the basis of each output signal out of a cylinder discrimination sensor 11, a crank angle sensor 12 and a throttle sensor 21. And, that whether the throttle opening detected by the throttle sensor 21 is smaller than the reference value or not is judged, and when YES is the case, it excites each solenoid 51 and makes operations of these cylinders B and C so as to be suspended.
