PURPOSE:To enable a discharge path to be formed in a desired position with higher reliability by installing a magnetic field-receiving device, corresponding to a magnetic-field generator installed outside the tube, in a partition installed in the tube. CONSTITUTION:In a cylindrical tube 1 charged withe a discharge gas and having a pair of electrodes in its ends, a cylindrical partition 8 at least one end of which is closed is installed in such a manner as to cause the central axes of the tube 1 and the partition 8 to coincide with each other. A magnetic-field generator 9 which can produce a magnetic field almost perpendicular to the axis of the tube 1, is installed outside the tube 1 along its axis. A magnetic-field-receiving device 10 corresponding to the generator 9 is installed either inside or on the surface of the partition 8. Owing to the above constitution, the magnetic- field-receiving device 10 works as the initial end or the terminal end of a magnetic field formed between the magnetic-field generator 9 and the magnetic-field- receiving device 10, thereby deflecting the discharge path (H) with higher reliability. |
