PURPOSE:To record a picture with simple operation by passing a character pattern written in the whole surface of one picture space of a writing medium through the lower part of an optical reader, storing the picture in a storage device and carrying pictures from the medium one by one. CONSTITUTION:The sheet-like recording medium P wound and held around/by a holding device 1 is expanded between the device 1 and a winding device 2 by driving a motor 6 of the device 2 on the basis of an indication from a winding indicating device 3. If there is no blank in the writing space of the medium, the user operates the device 3 to control by a carrying controller 4 carrying, so that the medium P is wound around the device 2 only by one picture and one new picture is pulled out from the device 1. Patterns or characters on the medium P are read out by an optical device 8 only by one picture and the read-out data are amplified 9 and A/D converted. The output picture information is temporally stored in a storage device 11 in each picture, the stored contents are read out and inputted to a recording circuit 12 and the characters or patterns are recorded in paper S. Thus, the contents written in a blackboard can be immediately copied.
