PURPOSE:To prevent damage to ink sheets by a method in which when ink sheet and recording paper are moved relatively in the opposite directions, the position of a tension roller is lowered as the head moves, and the winding angle of the ink sheet to the platen is reduced. CONSTITUTION:To make the relative movements of an ink sheet 13 and a recording paper 19 easier, the head 3 is pulled downwards by the action of a link mechanism to be entailed when operating a solenoid 12 and the pressing contact state with the platen 2 is released. At the same time, the roller 21 is also moved downwards with the head 3, and the winding angle of the ink sheet 13 to the platen 2 to reduce the contact area. As a result, damage to the ink face of the ink sheet 13 can be prevented as much as possible, and the increase in the rewinding resistance of the ink sheet 13 can also be suppressed. The miniaturization of motor can thus be attained without causing the increas of torque of the drive motor for the ink sheet.
