Balloon-contracting ring, in which at least the face coming in contact with the yarn consists of a material absorbing at least 15% by volume of a lubricant, the lubricant absorption being concluded at the earliest after 15 minutes have elapsed. The average hydrodynamic pore diameter of this material is around 5 to 25 mu m. A preferred material is wood. The balloon-contracting ring can have a threading-in slot (9), a lubricating groove (11) or a lubricant channel, and it can be composed of a plurality of individual rings arranged above one another or consist of bending wood or be of helical design. <IMAGE>
