A X-ray sighting mechanism having clamping slides for holding a X-ray film cassette on a cassette carriage and drive means for transporting the X-ray film cassette from a standby into a recording position, in which the longitudinal transport of the X-ray film cassette is performed by means of the cassette carriage, and the transverse transport of the X-ray film cassette is performed by means of a clamping slide carriage guided on the cassette carriage, and in which separate drives are provided for the cassette carriage and the clamping slide carriage, is proposed, in which the longitudinal transport of the X-ray film cassette is performed by means of a cassette carriage which can be adjusted via a spindle drive, and use is likewise made of a spindle drive for the transverse transport of the X-ray film cassette, which spindle drive is mounted on the cassette carriage. The result is to enable simple and exact positioning of the X-ray film cassette in the beam path, and to reduce the number of mechanical components used to adjust the cassette carriage and the clamping slide carriage.
