Solvent-free polybutene-1 is obtained by cooling a solution of 15 to 40% by weight of polybutene-1 in a liquid hydrocarbon solvent to a temperature of from 15 DEG to 35 DEG C., maintaining the solution within this temperature range until at least 75% of the polymer has precipitated, milling the wet mass, and then drying the wet flaky powder by progressively heating to 90 DEG C., the temperature of the powder during such heating being kept below the temperature at which the grains of the powder reagglomerate in the presence of the solvent that they still contain. In order to increase the isotactic content of the polymer part of the solvent containing atactic polybutene may be removed after cooling but before milling. |
