PURPOSE:To reduce the load of a measuring operator, by eliminating the actual measurement of an indentation by a measuring operator, by providing a means for uniformly illuminating the periphery of an indenter in predetermined quantity of light and a means for detecting the quantity of light transmitted through the above mentioned indenter. CONSTITUTION:An illumination framework 4 is provided at a position surrounding the outer periphery of an indenter attaching shaft 1 in close vicinity thereto and a light source 5, a light diffusing plate 6 for transmitting light from the light source 5 to convert the same to diffused light and a mirror 7 for reflecting diffused light toward the indenter 2 are arranged in the illumination framework 4. The indenter attaching shaft 1 is made hollow and a light detecting sensor 8 is arranged therein in close vicinity to the indenter 2. By this constitution, the penetration amount of the indenter into the surface of a specimen can be obtained without actually measuring an indentation and the burden to a measuring operator is remarkably reduced. |
