The invention relates to a sliding device for fire extinguishers. The carriage which supports the fire extinguisher and can slide in a stationary guide is held at the desired height by means of a stop. The stop can be moved by hand from a position in which it projects into the sliding path of the carriage into a position in which it no longer projects into the sliding path, so that the carriage then automatically moves along the sliding path into a lower end position, from which the fire extinguisher can then be removed from the carriage even by people who could not have reached the fire extinguisher in the higher position, e.g. people confined to a wheelchair. The actuating device for the stop must be situated at a height which is also accessible to a person confined to a wheelchair.
