Cooling tubes and fins for aluminium heat exchanger - uses assemblies of tapered rings to locate fins on tubes of exchanger used particularly in refrigeration

The fixing of the fluid carrying tubes to the cooling fins is complicated in aluminium heat exchanger by the difficulty of welding aluminium and the ease with which aluminium may be damaged by excessive force if mechanical fixing is used. Difficulties of mechanical assembly are overcome by use of split sleeves with an exterior taper, one for each contact between the tube and cooling fin. Matching rings have an internal taper. The two are pressed together by a pressure plate and a push rod, with an elastic buffer between the plate and the interior tapered ring. The pressure plate is positioned by a spherical seat.
