<p>1511110 Prepasted vinyl wallcovering GENERAL TIRE & RUBBER CO 4 Oct 1976 [23 Feb 1976] 41143/76 Heading B2E A pre-pasted wall covering consisting of a flexible vinyl film having a fabric backing is prepared by a process comprising applying to the fabric backing a composition comprising 100 parts per water moistenable starch, 100-35 parts of an organic polymer which has a tangent modulus of elasticity in bending at 5% of from 10-3000 M Pa and 100-300 parts of an organic liquid having a boiling point of from 45‹C to 150‹C the liquid being a solvent for the organic polymer and a non- solvent for the starch. The vinyl film used in making the wall covering may be polyvinyl chloride and it may have a thickness of from 5-15 mils. The fabric backing can be a cotton scrim or a non-woven fabric made from long filaments. Preferably the filaments are of polyester. The starch preferably has a particle size of less than 250 microns and preferred starch is a pregelatinizet amioca starch. Chemical modified starches may also be applied. The polymer may be an acrylic polymer such as a copolymer of methyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate or a copolymer of methylmeth acrylate, ethyl acrylate and acrylic or methacrylic acid. Rubbery copolymers such are those of butadiene and styrene may also be used. The preferred solvents are methyl ethyl ketone or methyl isobutyl ketone. A slip agent may be present such as hydroxyethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose and the methyl ether of cellulose may be present. 0.1-10 parts of a biocide may be present in the coating. The preferred coating rate is 5-40 times per square metre and the coating may be applied by a trihelical applicator roll working in conjunction with a doctor knife.</p> |
