Polymers comprising recurring units which, in the presence of silver ion or silver complex, are capable of undergoing cleavage or which, in the presence of an oxidizing or reducing agent, form a reaction product capable of undergoing cleavage so as to release a monovalent radical from the polymer. In a preferred embodiment, the released material comprises a photographically useful moiety. The invention also relates to photographic products and processes employing polymers comprising recurring units which, in the presence of a cleavage-initiating agent provided in an imagewise distribution as a result of development of a silver halide emulsion, undergo cleavage to release a correspondingly imagewise distribution of a photographically useful moiety. |
