The luffing lever is a supplementary device between the bottom mast end and the mast foot for dinghies without a foresail, with a sail area disposed on one side relative to the longitudinal axis of the boat and therefore also suitable for surfboards. It shifts the mast to the windward side by rotary movement about the longitudinal axis of the mast foot, the mast foot remaining at its preset location. The windward-side part of the sail area thereby forms a turning moment with opposite direction of rotation to the turning moment, reduced to the same degree, of the remaining sail area. The result is a reduction in the yawing when sailing to windward.
